Kampala — MEGA FM through its children programme has donated fifty insecticide-treated mosquito nets to the children's ward at Gulu Hospital.
The nets were handed over to the hospital administration last Saturday.
"As we celebrate the end of year with the healthy children, we thought the provision of mosquito nets could also be a good gesture to the sick children in the hospital so that when they are discharged, they do not carry malaria," Jackline Akello, the children programme producer said.
Mega FM also celebrated with the children and gave food to about 700 of them at an end of year party held at Pece Stadium in Gulu town.
A senior nursing officer at the hospital Yolanda Kilama commended Mega Fm for playing a role in the prevention of malaria.
She said: "Sometimes the children come here with diarrhea but when it is treated and they are discharged they go back with malaria because there is no prevention measures.
These mosquito nets, which we lacked, would help even the pregnant mothers who come to attend to their sick children."
Last year Mega Fm also donated gifts to children wards in hospitals in Gulu, Kitgum, Pader and Oyam districts.
