Kampala — RIYAZ Kurji made a winning return to the local scene after registering the fastest time in the Champion of Champions sprint at Botanical beach on Boxing Day.

Kurji, who had quit the domestic rally stage three years ago to compete in Kenya citing lack of competition, won in 4 minutes, 31 seconds, beating second placed Ronald Sebuguzi by five seconds.

Ssebuguzi blamed his second finish on fans who blocked his view in one section of the route forcing him to reduce his speed.

Ponsiano Lwakataka in a new Subaru N8 did not live up to his pre-event talk of beating everyone by finishing third in 4:45seconds.

But Lwakataka beat comeback kid Master Rob with whom he a had a Sh2m bet over who will beat the other, by over a minute.

The competition attracted 24 drivers who raced over a hilly terrain.
