Kano — Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the president of Dangote Group of Companies, as the chancellor of Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil.
A statement signed by the director of Press and Public Relations to the state governor, Sule Ya'u Sule, explained that the governor had also approved the reconstitution of the governing council of the university.
The new council members include, Alhaji Magaji Dambatta (OFR), chairman; Alhaji Sarki Ibrahim, Makaman Kano; Senator U.K Umar; Prof. Ibrahim Na'iya Sada and Ambassador Umar Bashir Wali as members.
Others are: Hajiya Balaraba Bello Maitama; Alhaji Bashir Borodo; representative of National Universities Commission; permanent secretary, Ministry of Higher Education; four representatives of the university's Senate; two non-Senate members from the academic staff; vice chancellor of the university; deputy vice chancellor of the university and registrar of the university.
Meanwhile, the state governor has similarly approved the reconstitution of the board of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) with Dr. Maryam Mansur Yola as executive chairman.
The statement added that other members of the board are Alhaji Muhammad Lawan Usman, Permanent Member I, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Inuwa-Permanent Member II, Malam Kabiru Turado, Hajiya Zahra Sabo Nanono and Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz (Bauran Kano).
The rest of the members include Alhaji Sanusi Ahmad Limanci, Dr. Adamu Turaki, representative of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), representative of the state Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), representative of state Ministry of Education, representative of the National Universal Basic Education Commission and representative of the College of Education, while Alhaji Usman Abubakar is to serve as secretary. All the appointments take immediate effect.
