South Africa: Da Gama Heads for Celtic Today

Bloemfontein Celtic's new coach Owen da Gama leaves Johannesburg for the Free State this afternoon with just one mission: to keep Phunya Sele Sele in the PSL.

Da Gama starts his job with Celtic tomorrow, having replaced Mich d'Avray, who was relieved of his duties at the club just before the Christmas break and who has since been 'redeployed' to technical director.

Speaking to Kickoff.com prior to his departure, the former Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates coach says he will only reveal more of his aspirations after meeting with management on Tuesday morning.

"I would prefer not say too much about my new job until I meet with management, but of course my main ambition is to help the club stay in the PSL this season."

Da Gama dismissed media reports that he intended roping in Willem Jackson as his assistant coach at Celtic.

"I don't know where the media got that information. The issue of an assistant coach will only be discussed during the meeting tomorrow," 'ODG' says.

Da Gama's first official assignment as Celtic coach is against Platinum Stars at Olen Park Stadium on January 10.
