Nigeria: Wotclef Fetes Children

30 December 2008

The Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF) on Monday in Abuja rounded off 2008 with an end-of-year party for children.

Mrs. Titi Abubakar, Founder and Chairperson of the Foundation, said the party was the foundation's way of expressing thanks to God for a year well spent.

"I am grateful to God for the protection He gave us in 2008. None of the 19 children under the foundation's care fell sick to the point of being admitted in hospital."All the children passed their examinations both at the primary and secondary school levels in flying colours and no one caused us any worry, so we have every cause to thank God."

Abubakar, who was visibly elated and played freely with the children who call her "mummy", prayed God to make 2009 a better year for the kids and the staff.

The occasion was marked with a dancing competition and the sharing of gifts to the children and members of staff by the founder, who is the wife of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

One of the children, a 13-year-old girl, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she was happy that they were going on holiday, adding "I will be going to see my parents in Imo State during the break."

Another child, an eight-year-old boy, said that he looked forward to the camping trip planned for them within the week.
