Only those with warehouses stocked with fertiliser will be awarded contracts for the supply of the commodity in the next farming season, Sen. Tawar Wada, Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture, said.
Speaking with newsmen in Billiri, Gombe State, Saturday, Wada said the decision was taken to avoid delays in the supply of the product to farmers.
He noted that in the past, those awarded the contract took time to supply, leading to delays in food production. He advised those interested in the contract to start preparing by securing warehouses and stocking them before the commencement of the planting season.
On the construction of Kafin Zaki dam in Bauchi State, which some states had kicked against, Wada said the resolution of the matter rested with the affected states" All the states involved should come together and work out a way forward. I am convinced that through dialogue, a solution would be found.
We are working toward that direction", he said.
