Nigeria: Monarch Seeks More Employment Opportunities for Youths

30 December 2008

Oweri — The traditional ruler of Owerri, Eze Emmanuel Njemanze, has appealed to the federal and state governments to come up with more proactive methods of creating employment for the youths.

Njemanze made the appeal in Owerri on Monday, while addressing leaders of the Imo Youth Development Initiative.

He stressed that no society could make any meaningful progress if its youths were neglected. He said that the creation of more employment opportunities for the youths would motivate them to contribute positively to the development of the rural communites, in particular.

Njemanze, who was honoured with a Youth Development Award of Excellence by the group, however, advised the youths to shun robbery, cultism and other societal ills. Earlier, the organisation's President, Mr. George Nkwazema, said that the association had been striving to empower the youths intellectually through workshops and symposia, as part of efforts to make them useful citizens and improve their productivity.
