Kickoff (Cape Town)
30 December 2008
Silver Strikers FC are the 2008 Malawi soccer kings after their closest rivals, Bullets FC, lost to Tiger FC, effectively giving the capital city giants a clear chance to claim the title.
The bankers can claim the TNM Super League title even before their last League match against Red Lions. It needs more than a miracle to stop them.
Bullets lost 2-1 to Tiger FC on Saturday. The result left them on 49 points and, even though they do have a game in hand, Strikers are six points better off with a vastly superior goal-difference.
Strikers last won the League title in 1996; a decade after the Super League was created. Bullets have won the Malawi title a record of 10 times, followed by Wanderers, who have clinched the League four times.
ESCOM United, Civo, Tigers and disbanded MDC United all won the title once.
