Eritrea: Land Transport Department Opens Branch Office in Afabet Sub-Zone

30 December 2008

Afabet — In line with efforts to expand social services and infrastructure facilities in all parts of the country, the Land Transport Department has opened a branch office in Afabet sub-zone so as to provide efficient transport service to the inhabitants of the area.

The head of the branch office, Mr. Saleh Mohammed Tiluk, said that since the inhabitants of Nacfa, Afabet and Mahmime and She'ib sub-zones used to face reliable transport problems, they were compelled to travel by unsafe and illegal vehicles through paying high fees. He further pointed out that the opening of the office has enabled the inhabitants to receive reliable and safe service at fair and legal fee. Moreover, the supervision of time of departure and arrival of buses to and fro the sub-zone is now being facilitated.

Noting that Harat Transport Company is striving to alleviate the transport problems people are encountering, Mr. Saleh explained that transport service is now being provided once a week to Mahmime and three times a week to She'ib. There are also plans to deploy buses to those areas still facing transport problems, including Naro-Ans, Naro-Teb'at and Mietir, he added.
