Kampala — UGANDA has entered a team of six junior players for the 2009 ITF/CAT East Africa Junior Tennis Championships due January 4-10 in Dar-es-Salaam.
Simon Peter Ayella, David Oringa, Derrick Bakunzi, Simon Ssessaazi for the boys, and Lydia Ndagire and Constance Manake for the girls event make the team.
The tournament is a qualifier for the 36th Africa Junior championships slated for April in Morocco. The best players from nine groups will qualify for the African meet, according to John Kasule, the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association administrator.
The team will be accompanied by national coach John Oduke. They are undergoing non-residential training at Lugogo.
The East African event has Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Libya, Seychelles and Eritrea.
