The Ogun state government has paid N116million as compensation to farmers whose farmlands were acquired for the OK Free Trade Zone project.
The Economic Adviser to the state governor, Yosola Akinbi, disclosed in Abeokuta that 90 per cent of 787 farmers who submitted request for claims have been paid fully.
She expressed happiness at the successful completion of the payment exercise, explaining that the government decided to pay the compensation, to enable the farmers look for alternative means of livelihood.
Akinbi pledged that government would always defend the rights of its citizens and work towards ensuring that people of the Waterside Local Government benefit from the project.
She advised those who have not received their compensation to be patient, and assured those who have complaints that their cases would be examined. (NAN)
