The Sokoto State government has said it would ensure diversification of projects and programmes to engender balanced development and fair distribution of basic amenities in all parts of the state as a focus of next year's budget.

Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko stated this while presenting the 2009 budget proposal of N54.7 billion tagged "Budget of Socio-Economic Transformation" to the state House of Assembly.

He said the budget is aimed at facilitating rapid socio-economic growth through effective mobilization of human and material resources for sustainable development.

Wamakko said his administration was poised to leave behind far reaching legacies that would be remembered for a very long time to come.

According to him, the budget focuses on the state government's determination to fulfill all campaign promises to the people of the state, adding that despite the national economic realities and global challenges, they would remain steadfast in their determination to address the yearnings of the electorates.

He said, "the goodwill that we have continuously enjoyed and the unflinching support of the legislature will be highly invaluable in our lofty pursuits. Let me state with all sincerity that our ultimate success will invariably sprout from the fountains of our collective efforts, dedication and sacrifice".

The 2009 budget for the state has N24.7 billion for recurrent expenditures and N30.038billion for capital expenditures.

He said based on the sectoral allocations, the social sector has the highest allocation of N 9.794 billion followed by the economic sector which has over N 9.214 billion.

The environmental sector has N6.147 billion, general administration, N4.637 billion, judiciary, N141.746 million and the legislature N104.038 million.
