Nigeria: LG Boss Asks Yar'Adua to Encourage Farming

ALHAJI Ibrahim Kabiru, Chairman of Kware Local Government Council in Sokoto State has advised President Umaru Yar'Adua to encourage large-scale farming to boost food production in the country.

Kabiru said, that this can be done through the provision of modern inputs at government controlled rates.

He said that the challenges before the present administration was the adoption of a policy that would ensure massive food production in the country.

Kabiru explained that agriculture should be accorded priority to ensure food security for the sustenance of economic growth.

"Yar'Adua should lay a concrete foundation that would improve the economy and enhance human development.

"Our major problem is planning. And once we make up our mind to do it, we reach the destination smoothly" he said.The Chairman also called on Nigerians to support the policies and programmes of the present administration as they are designed to better the lots of the governed.
