Uganda: Athletics Stars to Grace Acon Wedding

Kampala — SUDANESE track star Ismael Ahmed will be one of the stars at 1994 world junior champion Julius Acon's Kampala wedding on January 10.

The Beijing Olympics silver medalist and Australian long distance runner Eloise Wellings jet in this week in time for an introduction ceremony in Butende, Iganga on Saturday.

Acon, currently an athletics coach in Oregon, USA, will be introduced by Grace Hissa ahead of a grand wedding in Ntinda.

Prior to the Beijing Games Ismael had taken many by surprise four years ago by reaching the 800m final at the Athens Olympics.

In the build-up to Beijing he had a good season with six sub 1:45 performances along with a silver medal at the African championships in Addis Ababa.

Ismael was coached by Acon at Oregon's Nike club before the lanky Sudanese rose to stardom. Wellings finished fourth in the 5000m final at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Acon and Hissa will say "I do" at Victory City Centre in Ntinda and thereafter host their guests to a reception at Maria's Place also in Ntinda.

Acon returned to Uganda last month to for preparations that had him return to his Otuke County village for the first time in 18 years.

Sports State minister Charles Bakkabulindi, ministers and members of parliament from the Lango sub region and sports personalities are some of the personalities that will grace the occasion.
