Luanda — The Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, on Tuesday here reaffirmed that the approval of the future Constitution of the Angolan Republic will be one of the priorities for the year 2009, thus appealing for the participation of citizens in the debates about this document, aiming at enriching the Bill.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was speaking at the ceremony of yearend greetings to the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, held Tuesday at the Presidential Palace.
In his opinion, in 2009 the MPs will have as one of the main challenges the approval of the Constitution of the Republic, during which it is expected that political parties, the organised civil society and citizens in general participate with serenity, intelligence, common sense and help with finding good solutions for the country".
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos also announced that after the approval of the Constitution, conditions will be created for the announcement of the presidential elections and keep on moving towards the normalisation of the state's institutions.
He said he believes that in face of the international financial crisis, the President of the Republic will find solutions that enable the continuation of the implementation of strategies and government programme that aim at improving people's living standards.
"Let us start 2009 with the continuous aim of moving towards development, creating conditions for the materialisation of the commitments that have been assumed and make Angolans a happy people and Angola a prosperous and good country to live in", he said.
After wishing the President and his family well-being, good health, long life and happiness, the Parliament Speaker extolled the Head of State's engagement in the achievement of peace, the successful implementation of the national reconstruction programme and for the admiration and respect acquired in the international community.
He underlined that the Angolan people have resisted and made gains with heroism, determination and sacrifice, thanks to the wisdom and intelligence of President José Eduardo dos Santos, in leading the country.
The speaker of the National Assembly pointed out as the main event of this year, the holding of the September 05 legislative elections in which the Angolan people showed Africa and the world their political maturity and democratic flair, with civility, order and tranquillity.
