Kano — Kano State's Anti-corruption and Public Complaint Commission has received over 1,788 cases on various matters. Out of the cases, 688 have been disposed, while the remaining have either been kept pending investigations since the inception of the Commission in 2005.
Director-General of the Commission, Mallam Aminu Muhammad, disclosed in Kano that the Commission has also received a total of 396 complaints/petitions related to land/housing, out of which 232 were directed against the Ministry of land and physical planning and KNUPDA.
Also 164 petitions were filed against various Local Government councils in the state, the Emirate council, Federal Government agencies, government officials, private organisations, and various individuals.
Aminu added that from 232 complaints involving the ministry of land and physical planning 97 are requiring compensations or re-allocation due to acquisition by government; while 22 cases were against KNUPDA, 49 against individuals and 64 against groups of people or organisations.
He said, 33 were successfully resolved between individuals; 18 were transferred to relevant agencies; 12 were rejected due to lack of substance or with drawn by complainants at will; 110 still on investigation; while 59 are kept pending in response to the correspondences with the Lands Ministry and KNUPDA or support evidence for further verification from the complainants.
Speaking also, the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Salisu Alhassan, said enactment of a Decree by the Federal Government was due to the difficulties encountered in the acquisition of land for national development, particularly in the South where such lands were being held by individuals, families and communities.
He added that the ministry has maintained its dignity with the good understanding of traditional institutions for any acquisition of land; through the recognition of the emirate council, local government councils, district heads and other traditional institutions.
