Kaduna — In view of the need to curb the rate of crime in Kaduna State, the administration of Governor Namadi Sambo has bought 113 patrol vans and 250 police motorcycles, in addition to 1,000 bullet-proof vests for its security outfit named 'Operation Yaki'.
Making these disclosure, while briefing the press, Information Commissioner, Saidu Adamu, further revealed that the state had procured another helicopter to complement the first one the state had, which is being used for aerial surveillance on the state's highways as well as monitoring the pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to forestall vandalisation.
Adamu, while stating that one of the state's helicopters had been loaned to the Joint Task Force (JTF) to help in surveillance of the Niger Delta, added that the other helicopter, in addition to surveillance within the state, also covers the Abuja-Kaduna, Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highways.
The commissioner who was holding his quarterly media briefing at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), further spoke on the state's attempt at poverty alleviation, saying about 200 vehicles had been distributed to individuals on soft loans, while 23 cottage industries comprising six chalk and 17 paint schemes had been established.
He also said that 147 persons drawn from the state's 23 Local Governments had received training in chalk and paint making, video editing, processing and printing of colour and black photographs.
The Commissioner who also spoke about the railway transport scheme in the state, revealed that in addition to the rail transport that has been extended to 15 local councils, two new locomotives for transporting goods and services from Lagos Port to the new Kaduna Inland Port Containers have been procured.
According to him, "importers from the northern states need not go to Lagos Port anymore for clearance of goods, but can redirect the goods to Kaduna where they can then come and claim it
