Tunisia: Solidarity March With Palestinian People Gathers Thousands in Tunis

1 January 2009

Tunis — Following the grave Israeli aggressions in the Gaza strip and the dramatic and inhuman situation witnessed by Palestinians in this territory, an imposing Solidarity March with the Palestinian people, was organized on Thursday morning in Tunis at the initiative of political parties, national organisations, components of civil society, as well as young people and students.

Thousands of people took part in the march which started at the November 7 Square in Tunis and walked down the Avenue Mohamed V.

Participants in the March chanted slogans reaffirming Tunisia's unflagging solidarity with the Palestinian leadership and its people and its constant support for their legitimate struggle to recover their land and create an independent State.

They also condemned the callous Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians in the Gaza strip, in violation of all international Charters and Conventions, and human values.

Participants also hailed the resistance of the brave Palestinian people and reiterated Tunisia's total solidarity with them, and called for an end to Israel's aggression against the Palestinian people.

Banners were also displayed calling for the lifting of the unfair Israeli blockade imposed on the Palestinian people.

Participants in the march also hailed President Ben Ali's unwavering support to the Palestinian cause, which was concretized through the measures the Tunisian President took by issuing instructions to open a postal account in view of collecting donations, as well as the organization of a blood donation Day in favor of the Palestinian people.
