Katsina — Danja local council in Katsina state has recruited 103 ad hoc teachers to boost its teaching staff in both primary and secondary schools in the area.
The chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the council secretariat, noted that the ad hoc staff include one degree holder and 102 NCE holders. Alhaji Dabai added that the council was spending N742,000 monthly on allowances of the ad hoc teachers, with the degree holder was receiving N10, 000.00 and the NCE holders collecting N7,000.00 monthly.
The chairman, therefore, observed that apart from improving teaching in these schools, the initiative also reduced unemployment among graduates of the area.
He similarly stated that under the council's scholarship scheme, his administration had expended the sum of N2.3 million as scholarship allowances for the 2007-2008 academic sessions, adding that the council had spent N235, 000, 00 on SSCE and NECO. On women empowerment, Dabai averred that 50 women selected from all wards in the area were trained in various trades such as shoe, cream and soap making, which cost the council N1.2 million.
