Niger State government has concluded plans to partner with University of Ilorin in the area of admission. This was disclosed by the state governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu when he received a dele-gation from the university who came on an appreciation visit to the Government House, Minna on Wednesday.
The governor said a four-man committee is to be inaugurated to work out areas and modalities for cooperation and collaboration with the university, and that the committee is to be headed by the Secretary to the State Govern-ment, Dr. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya.
Aliyu, who expressed concern over the insignificant number of northern student enrollment es-pecially into the University of Ilorin, said it was time for Nigerlites and indeed people from the nor-thern part of the country to benefit from the institution.
The governor, who is also the Chairman of Northern Governors' Forum, said it is the concern of the 19 northern states that secon-dary schools produce qualified students for admission into the university system.
Aliyu, who described educa-tion as the foundation for the pro-gress and development of every society, also said as the chairman northern governors' forum, it was time to put in place a school sys-tem that will produce qualified students into the university system.
The VC of the institution, Pro-fessor Ishaq Oloyede, who spoke earlier decried the low enrolment rate of Niger State students in the university and called on the go-vernment to sensitize and avail potential undergraduates the opportunity offered by the university.
