Nigeria: Sokoto Donates Computers to Law Students

2 January 2009

The Sokoto State government has donated a set of computer to each of the 15 students from the state studying at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.

The items, worth N2 million, were distributed to the beneficiaries at a brief ceremony in the state's Ministry of Justice.

Special Adviser to Governor Aliyu Wamakko on Scholarship and Students Matters, Dr Ali Inname, said during the presentation that the state government had also paid the students registration fees and allowances.

"They need these computers to be in tune with the global vogue of ICT now and we will not want them to lag behind in this direction", Inname added.

He assured the students that the state government would continue to support them in their studies, urging them to be dutiful.

"The state is in serious need of legal services and as such, we will continue to sponsor our indigenes to study law and enhance professionalism in the state", he pledged.

Inname urged them to rededicate themselves and make the best use of the computers to justify the gesture of the state government.

The Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, said that the state government was determined to improve legal practice in the state.

Abdulkadir stated that this informed the decision of the state government to pay the law students at the Bar their monthly salary and their subsequent engagement in the state civil service on completion of their studies.

He commended the state government for according priority to the training and re-training of legal practitioners in the state. (NAN)
