Nigeria: LG Employs Graduates As Casual Teachers

The Danja Local Government Council in Katsina has employed 103 graduates as casual teachers and posted them to primary schools.The Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Balarabe, stated this last year in Danja while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the council in the past eight months.

He said the graduates, who included degree, NCE and diploma holders, were employed to reduce the rate of unemployment among the graduates.

According to him, each degree holder is given N10,000 monthly while NCE and diploma holders receive N7,000 monthly.

He said the local council had also introduced a scholarship scheme for students studying in tertiary institutions, adding that N5 million had been spent on the programme.

Balarabe said that N1.3 million had been set aside for the payment of students offered admission in January 2009.

On Agriculture, the council boss said the local government had rehabilitated Tandama earth dam at N4.2 million to boost dry season farming.
