Kickoff (Cape Town)
2 January 2009
Bafana Bafana players Terror Fanteni, Tsepo Masilela and Bevan Fransman may have to put their careers in Israel on hold due to the growing conflict between the Jewish state and Palestinian Hamas organisation in the Gaza strip.
Israel's Football Association postponed all organised soccer in the country indefinitely after a rocket fired from the Gaza strip landed in the penalty area of Hapoel Ashkelon's stadium just before the Third Division side began practicing.
Fanteni and Masilela turn out for League leaders Maccabi Haifa, while Fransman plays for Maccabi Netanya, who are currently second in the table and coached by German legend Lothar Matthaus.
Although the Israeli League only resumes on January 10 after a festive season break, the Football Association would not put a timeframe to their suspension and a worsening in the security situation in the country could have a medium to long-term affect on their football.
