Boys that represent Abuja Children's Home football team yesterday surprised members of the Orphanage Sports Club, when they thrashed them 5-1 in a novelty match played at the Home's playing ground in Karu, Abuja.

The club, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) had organised the match to create fun for the children during the New Year celebration.

As the match progressed into the second half, members of the Orphanage Sports Club that were not comfortable with the lead attempted to force some changes on their team but were disallowed by some of their players in the field.

Children from the orphanage displayed unique skills and appeared to be in control of the ball throughout the match, with Daniel, Thomas proving to be good strikers.

Female children of the orphanage were not left out in the fun as they shouted and danced to every goal scored by their male footballers.

In a pre match chat, President of Orphanage Sports Club, Godwin Bamigboye Abadaki said the club's objective is to reach out to various orphanages in the area of sports and make children in such places happy and have hope.

He said through such matches, talents can be discovered from the children and immediately developed.

"Abuja Children's Home is the starting point being the most organised orphanage in the Federal Capital Territory, and we are using the home as a platform to reach out to other orphanages," he disclosed.

He said when the club started last year, they partnered with Laraba Shown, a non governmental organisation to organise a mini competition called 'Children's Cup' of which a match was played that saw Abuja Children's Home winning Chesterfield College by three to zero goal margin.

He hoped that the club with partner with the NGO to organise the main competition for the cup, adding that the club tries as much as possible to introduce the children to other games such as volley ball, hand ball, basket ball, etc.

"If there are other areas such as education that we can assist the children, we will, especially if it means sourcing for scholarships in foreign schools that are meant for talented children in sports," he stated.

In a post match chat, the Captain of Abuja Children's Home team, Thomas Shedrack, said his side won because every member of his team was determined to win.

The club after the match organised a New Year party for children of the orphanage, who were treated to lavish meals and drinks.
