Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has called for special prayers and fasting for complete return of peace to the state in the New Year.
He stated this while speaking at the special New Year service at the COCIN Church, Du in Jos South Local Government Area urging all to pray for God's guidance for the state towards return of peace.
He enjoined the people of the state to continue to welcome all Nigerians from various parts of the country with open arms since they were in the state to contribute to its development.
The governor, however, stressed the need for mutual respect for peaceful co-existence describing the end of last year as turbulent for the state.
He was optimistic that with prayers and the right attitude, the state would put behind it the ugly past and move ahead on the path of progress.
Officiating minister of the church, Rev. Pam Dung Dabot urged Nigerians to begin the new year with love and forgiveness noting that God had a purpose for whatever he allows in the life of any man.
The New Year eve was devoid of the usual night services by most churches as a result of the curfew in the state capital. Most churches held their end of year services on Wednesday evening ahead of the commencement of the curfew at 7pm.
However, a few churches still held the night prayers making it an all night vigil as members had to wait till the morning.
