Angola: Prison Services to Invest in Agriculture, Cattle Breeding

Luanda — The prison services will work this year in the relaunch of agricultural and cattle breeding growth points and in factories throughout the country for prisoners' self food supply, Angop learned.

This was said by the national director of the prison services, Jorde de Mendonça Pereira, while announcing the main tasks for the institution in 2009.

"We want to implement the relaunch of productive activity and the effective launch of cattle breeding and agricultural growth points, invest in our infrastructures, with the development of factory areas, as well as improvement to labour conditions of our employees," he said.

To this end, he added, a study for the purchase of equipment for cattle breeding in the prisons of Bentiaba (Namibe), Peu Peu (Cunene), Damba (Malanje) and Capolo (Bié) is in progress.

The construction of a high security prison is also part of the plan of the prison services.
