Liberia: President Johnson Sirleaf Hopeful in New Year's Message

Monrovia — President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has urged Liberians at home and abroad to join her in a recommitment to the ongoing reform process, critical to the renewal of the nation. In a year end message, the President said Government's Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS), otherwise known as 'Lift Liberia,' can succeed through the participation, contribution and involvement of every citizen.

"We can achieve national unity through the reconciliation efforts of each of us. We can improve the lives of all through caring and sharing by each of us," an Executive Mansion release quotes the Liberian leader in her New Year's message. The President assured Liberians and foreign partners that her administration will leave no stone unturned to achieve the goals set out in the development of the country as the nation dedicates 2009 the year of "Lifting Liberia."

President Johnson Sirleaf described the on-going celebration during this holiday season as one of the best in recent years despite the isolated incidences that brought sorrow to some citizens. The Liberian leader expressed particular satisfaction that smiles have again returned to the faces of thousands of the country's children whose hope in their future has been restored.
