Kampala — THE Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results are scheduled to be released next week, Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) said on Friday.
The spokesperson, Eve Konde, said they were processing the results.
"We hope to be ready in the second week of January so that Senior One students can report to school early February. Our people are working hard to ensure that we release the results as soon as possible."
Another UNEB official said the results would be ready between January 10 and 15 so as to coincide with other countries in the region. Kenya has already released its results for primary schools.
According to UNEB, a total 486,312 pupils sat PLE last year, the highest in four years. The number of candidates increased by 50,000 last year.
This is the 13th lot of pupils under the universal primary education scheme to sit PLE.
Last year, Mbarara municipality was the best performing district with 39.7% of all candidates passing in Grade One.
It was followed by Masaka municipality (39.4%), Fort Portal (37.8), Kabale municipality (31.3%), Lira municipality (30.6%), Entebbe (29.2%) and Kampala (23.7%).
The worst performers were Yumbe, where 0.3% of candidates passed in Grade One.
Also at the bottom of the list were Manafwa and Gulu (both 0.6%), Moyo and Bukedea (both 0.7%) and Amolotar (0.8%).
