Uganda: Makerere University Gets Sh19 Million

4 January 2009

Kampala — MAKERERE University has received $10,000 (about sh19m) to train women entrepreneurs.

The money, which will be channelled through Makerere University Private Sector Forum, was donated by Raise Yourself To Help Mankind, a Philippines-based organisation.

The organisation's director, Renu Gidoomal, handed over the cheque to Makerere's vice-chancellor, Prof. Livingstone Luboobi, recently.

"We have given the money to Makerere because we identified it as the pioneer university in entrepreneurship, business and technical skills and as an incubation centre for small and medium enterprises."

"This way, we shall crate a value chain in the education system whereby a student completes university while capable of starting their own business however small. And as is always the case, business grows with time," Gidoomal said.
