Kampala — THE Pan African Movement is to host the African Union pre-summit meeting on Refugees and Internally Displaced People, this April in Kampala.
The meeting will draw participants from the Economic and Social Council of the AU, members from various Civil Society Organisations and people from the Diaspora, Stephen Othieno, the Executive Assistant to the General Secretary at the Pan African Movement Secretariat, has said.
Addressing journalists at the Media Centre last week, Othieno appealed to African governments to honour the pledge they made during the 1994 7th Pan African Movement Congress held in Kampala in which they promised to fund the secretariat's activities.
Othieno explained that due to lack of finances, the secretariat has been forced to reduce on the number of its personnel from 14 to five people.
"We have not received money since September and the situation has forced many of our workers to resign," Othieno disclosed.
The pre-summit meeting will discuss issues on; the situation and resettlement of refugees, reintegration of fighters into national armies and how to resolve conflict in Africa.
The meeting will take one week ahead of the Heads of Government Summit meeting which will also discuss the similar issues.
