Kampala — REPORTS from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Western Equatorial region of Southern Sudan that the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebels o f Joseph Kony had cut off lips as well as the body parts of some of the residents has sent panic amongst the people of northern Uganda.
Panic-stricken residents in some part of Acholi plan to return to the IDP camps so as not to become victimsâ-‚of the LRA cruelty should they cross back into Uganda.
In Kitgum District, reports emerging from areas bordering Southern Sudan indicate that some people have begun sending their children to the camps following rumours that LRA rebels are very likely to cross back to Southernâ-‚Sudan and into the area.
However, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Alfred Omony Ogaba, dispelled the rumours of the rebels possible return.
"It's true that rumour has been going around that some LRA rebels will cross back following the launch of the joint military operation against the rebels in DRC and Southern Sudan. However, there is no cause for panic since the army is inâ-‚full control of the situation.
The rum ours are being spread by petty thieves who want the residents who are now settled in their homes to return to the camps so that they take advantage to stael their food stuff, especially simsim and they to earn them money. We are monitoring these people whom he described as Scare crows and we shall deal with them,'Ogaba said.
