Tanzania: Country Out to Hit Zanzibar

Kampala — TANZANIA's Taifa Stars are determined to avenge their painful 1-0 defeat at the hands of archrivals Zanzibar in last year's CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup when the two face-off at Nakivubo Stadium today.

The CHAN finalists, stunned 1-0 in their opening group match against Somalia on Saturday, need not to be reminded of the significance of the game, especially with more daunting ties against Rwanda and hosts Uganda still in line.

"We didn't have the luck against Somalia but that will change in our next game," Tanzania's coach Marcio Maximo stated.

The two nations' rivalry stems from the fact that they share players when it gets to international competitions like the African and World Cup qualifiers.

Zanzibar have often felt that Tanzania alone are not good enough and that the cream that forms the bulk of the Tanzanian national team usually comes from their state.

Zanzibar is still not affiliated to FIFA.

Rwanda, who lost 4-0 to Uganda, face Somalia who earned a 1-0 historic win over Tanzania.
