The former champions were opening their first game of the annual tournament sponsored by pay television channel GTV.

Meanwhile, Rwanda have recruited Raul Shungu, former head coach of Tanzania giants Yanga as their assistant coach.

Shungu will be Tucak's deputy.

"FERWAFA (Rwanda football governing body) has recruited me to help the new coach because he has never been to Africa," Shungu said.

Before he new assignment, Shungu was the head coach of the national youth team in Seychelles.

Rwanda take on Somalia today.

Amavubi Stars must win the match to keep their title aspirations alive.

Rwanda and Tanzania are the only teams in Group A without a point so far.
