Angola: Provincial Associations Press for Election in Federations

4 January 2009

Luanda — Eleven provincial associations are pressing for a date for elections in the Angolan Federation of Athletics (FAA).

The demand is contained in a letter sent to the chairman of the table of assembly of the Angolan Athletics Federation (FAA), Vieira Dias Tomás.

The letter that reached Angop Saturdray, was subscribed by the provincial associations of Luanda, Bengo, Benguela, Lunda Norte, Kwanza Sul, Namibe, Cabinda, Uíge, Huambo, Bié and Lunda Sul.

The associations are speaking against the lack of transparency and correctness in the postponement of the elections and infringement to the law.

They are also proposing the holding of an extraordinary assembly for January 10, to discuss information, analysis of the reports on activities and accounts for 2007 and 2008, setting of a date for elections and their schedule, constitution of the voting population and of the electoral commission.
