Nigeria: Yar'Adua Honours Omatek's Florence Seriki

3 January 2009

The hardworking woman behind Omatek Computers, Florence Seriki has been honoured by President Umaru Yar'Adua for her contribution to Information Technology (IT).

She was recently honoured alongside other dignitaries in Abuja with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

Omatek Computers is notable for producing the first ever Nigerian made computer cases, speakers, keyboards and mouse. Aside this, the innovative boss is said to have made another feat when her company produced the first indigenous notebook computer and servers. This move has not only provided employment for several Nigerians but also added to the Nigerian University curriculum, which now has the computing and assemblage of the computer as a course. Florence, who many say is fit for the award, has positioned the Omatek Computers in the eye of the Federal Government as one of the four locally assembled brands to be patronised and used by all the Federal Government establishments. Other organisations that have also honoured her are the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, Strategic Finance and Administrative Institute, Obafemi Awolowo University, Faculty of Technology, Hall of Fame, Microsoft African Partner Summit, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Excellence in Enterprise Award, African International Role, Nigerian American Chamber of Commerce, New dawn Communications and City People Awards.
