Lafia — Action Congress (AC) in Nasarawa state has stated that it would be offering a helping hand to the state government in the development of infrastructure in the state this year.
AC's governorship candidate in the 2007 election in the state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule , disclosed this while speaking yesterday on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) (FM) phone-in Hausa programme, "Ga Fili Ga Mai Doki."
He said that his party at the state level had reached advanced stage in identifying some areas of need where it would come in and execute projects and programmes for the benefit of the people of the state.
The party chieftain said, these projects and programmes were being initiated by his campaign organisation in collaboration with his party at the state level.
According to him, "one does not have to be in government before one assists his own people so far as the resources are there and this is not a one man job but the collective responsibility of all those that have to help in the development of our state."
Sule who is now the Managing Director of Dangote Sugar Company said the party embarked on the programme because of its observation that the present administration in the state under Governor Aliyu Doma had not done enough to justify the resources it had so far collected.
Also while speaking on the party's position over the last local council election in the state which was held in November 2008, Sule stated that "it cannot be called election but allocation of positions to chosen persons by the state government, but except in the case of Wamba where there was no election at all and we are challenging the state government at the tribunal, we have left the rest for posterity to judge."
The AC flag bearer who expressed disappointment in the execution of the 13-point agenda by the state government particularly noted that the government was yet to bring any meaningful change in healthcare delivery, education, youth empowerment and industrial growth.
He pointed out that the state capital was yet to wear any new look befitting of a state capital and could not rank among its peers such as Gombe state.
He then called on the state government to change its style of leadership and be more accountable in its spending of public funds
