South Africa: Sandilands is Not Moving

5 January 2009

Goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands has refuted media reports that he wants out of Platinum Stars.

Sandilands was reported to have joined Bloemfontein Celtic minder Shu-Aib Walters in requesting their respective teams to hand them their clearances so that they could look for a team where they would get more game time.

Unlike Walters who has not hidden his feelings about leaving Phunya Sele Sele, the 25-year-old Johannesburg born goalkeeper sings a different tune and tells KickOff.com that he sees himself as having a great future with the Tycoons.

"I was surprised by reports in the media, saying I wanted to leave Stars. Those reports are totally untrue. I will continue to pledge my loyalty and commitment to Platinum Stars."

Sandilands says he will continue to fight his Zimbabwean counterpart, Tapuwa Kapini, for the number 1 jersey.

"In every team there is competition, so why must I run away from it at Stars. I am happy to compete with Kapini, while at the same working hard to earn a place in the team's starting line-up."
