Twelve zonal finalists in the 2009 All Nigeria Secondary Schools Football Championship tagged NNPC/Shell Cup have emerged following the conclusion of the state finals last month.
National Co-ordinator of the NNPC/Shell Cup, Shola Akinwale, said the competition has been in progress in various states with different secondary schools participating in the event .
In Gombe State, Government Day Secondary School, Gandu beat Government Day Secondary School, Pilot with 2-1 to pick the ticket while Bauchi State Comprehensive Secondary School, Bauchi defeated General Hassan Govt. Sec. School, 2-0 in a penalty shoot out after they ended their tie 0-0.
The Borno State ticket was clinched by Senior Science Secondary School, Biu which beat Government Day Secondary School, Maiduguri 2-0 while in Oyo State, Asegun Comprehensive Secondary School, Ibadan defeated Ibadan Boys High School, Ibadan 3-0. In Ogun State, Ijemo Titun High School, Abeokuta defeated Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode 3-0 on penalties after full-time ended 1-1.
City Comprehensive Sec. School, Abakpa, Enugu emerged Enugu state champions after defeating Community Secondary School, Obolo Afor 2-0 while the Taraba State ticket was won by Government Secondary School, Bali which beat Government Secondary School, Wukari 4-2 on penalties.
Nasarawa State champion school is Government Secondary School, Doma which defeated Government Secondary School, Tudun Amba 1-0, while in Adamawa State, Government Day Secondary School Yola beat Government Day Secondary School, Ganye 2 - 0.
In Kwara State, Government Day Secondary School, Lafiagi overcame Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin 1-0 as the Katsina State ticket was won by Government Day Secondary School, Mai Adua which defeated Katsina College, Katsina 9-8 on penalties after their tie ended 0-0 at full-time.
Ebonyi State champions are Community Secondary School, Okposhi Eheku who beat Government Technical College, Abakaliki 3-0. The zonal finals will hold in nine centres across the country later this month with winners converging on four cities for the quarter-finals.
