Former chairman of Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Gara Gombe has advised the new Sports Minister/Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC) Engineer Sani Ndanusa to be wary of sycophants if he hopes to succeed in office.

Gombe, in an exclusive interview with Sunday Vanguard sports, said that Ndanusa would be under intense pressure from Sports administrators, politicians and other sports enthusiasts but urged him not to fall to their antics.

"Ndanusa must be very, very careful with the sycophants in sports because some of them have been paying him courtesy calls and he has to be very careful with them if he wants to succeed. He should also be careful with the sporting press.

"He is now carrying the banner of all the sports administrators, enthusiasts and all those from the sporting fraternity who have been clamouring for the appointment of sports person to supervise sports affairs in the country.

If he fails then all of us have to shut- up because we have no explanation to give to anybody. It simply means that if Ndanusa fails, a plumber or a mechanic can be employed to be our sports minister because we have no moral right to tell government or the President to appoint a sports person anymore".

The controversial former FA boss alleged that Nadanusa's name was dropped for his kinsman, Barrister Abdulrahaman Gimba when President Umaru Musa Yar 'Adua first appointed the first set of ministers on assuming office in 2007.

"Ndanusa's name was dropped for Gimba as a sports Minister when President Yar'Adua newly came to power but now that Gimba is out as sports minister and the person who nominated Gimba is not the same as the one who nominated Ndanusa, there is a likelihood that this political consideration may not allow him(Ndanusa) to continue the good work Gimba started.

He may not even take advice from Gimba because if he takes advice from him it will look like he is taking advice from his adversaries. That it is the political angle I am trying to point out," he said.
