Nigeria: NSL Backs Nuga With Promo

4 January 2009

National Sports Lottery Plc (NSL) has pledged to support the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) slated for the first quarter of 2009 at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka .

The NUGA Games tagged 'UNN 2008' received boost from NSL as it flagged-off a special promo tagged "Sharp-Sharp" designed solely to raise the much needed funds to support the big sporting event.

The NUGA GAMES will play host to about 79 Universities represented by over 20,000 athletes. About 2,000 special guests, 7,000 officials, 500 journalists and 100,000 spectators are all expected to attend the games. It is anticipated that over 100 million television viewers will tune-in for the two week duration of the games

According to the Chief Operating Officer of NSL foundation, Mrs. Fuke Kuti, the decision to embark on the promo instead of just doling out money to the organizers was informed by the need to help the students themselves.

She said "One of the cardinal policies of this company is to support the youth through the creation of employment and also talents discovery. We believed that when the youth are gainfully engage a lot of burden would be removed from the society. Social vices will be curbed to the barest minimum.

"NLS is known to support sport at all level this we consider as part of our social responsibility" she stated.

She also gave insight into the promo, "during the period of the promo the student will serve as agents, they will earn commission from their sales while the university would get a reasonable percentage of the proceeds to refurbish and update their facilities, so it is a win-win situation.

She explained further that those who may wish to work for NSL as agents in the future among the students as a bright chance as the Sharp-Sharp promo for NUGA will have afforded them the opportunity to understand the basic rudiments of the business.

Already the majority of our agents are youth we still to engage more to meet the expanding nature of our business" She said.
