Angola: Health Ministry, Who to Announce Measures to Prevent Haemorrhagic Fever

4 January 2009

Luanda — Angola's Health Ministry and the World Health Organisation (WHO) office in the country will announce on Monday in Luanda measures taken by Angolan Government to prevent the ebola haemorrhagic fever that was declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s Kassai province, that border with Lunda-Norte, Angop learned.

A source from WHO told Angop that the two institutions will hold a press conference to announce the measures taken by Angola to prevent the illness.

According to WHO data, three cases of the disease were recorded in the DRC.

At least 36 suspected cases were recorded, including 12 deaths feared to be related to the sickness.

Laboratory tests are taking place in the DRC, Gabon and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos, on Saturday appointed an ad-hoc commission, coordinated by the prime minister, António Paulo Kassoma, to take actions to prevent the ebola pandemic.
