Ondjiva — The governor of southern Cunene province, António Didalelwa, Sunday here highlighted the importance and the achievements of the heroes of the Massacre of Baixa de Kassanje, within the historical and political context for the independence of Angola.
The governor was addressing the event marking 48 years of the Martyrs of the Massacre of the Baixa de Kassanje.
He on the occasion spoke of the need for a honour to the heroes who fought in the defense of just and common cause and freedom.
"The January 4, 1961 is a landmark of vital importance at national, continental and international level, as it was then that the Angolan nationalist rose their awareness of the need for freedom and control of their destinies," said the governor.
The official urged Angolans to preserve the memories of the Angolan heroes, praising the spirit of dedication and determination that today is reflected on the improvement of people's living.
The event started with the laying of a wreath by the tomb of the unknown soldier, with the participation of members of government, judges, representatives of the National Police, political parties and of the civil society.
