Abuja — The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police command, has reassured residents of the nation's capital that incidents of crime have been reduced to its barest minimum and so they could go about their legitimate duties without fears.

The commissioner of police, Mr. John Haruna, reacting to last Sunday's Leadership Sunday's cover story, "Robbers welcome Aliero to FCT", in a rejoinder signed by assistant commission of police Peace-Ibekwe Abdullah, noted that the FCT police command had been severally commended for its unwavering efforts in fighting criminals in the FCT.

The CP, who lamented that the report did not reflect the true situation of security in the FCT, stressed that such a report would not deter the police from their resolve to make FCT Abuja crime- free and a safe place to live and go about one's lawful duties.

While challenging the media to go the extra-mile in assisting the police to bring out the bad eggs within the police force, the CP expressed reservation at defamatory and derogatory publications which he said could cause untoward relationship between the media and the FCT command.

"It could be recalled gloriously that recently, the council of state commended the Nigeria Police Force for drastically reducing crime rate in the country to the barest minimum. This is a testimony of an excellent satisfaction with all the security measures and strategies employed by the police to prevent and combat crimes in the country. This commendation was further buttressed by the European Economic Council just last week that indeed the police have recorded significant improvements in fighting crimes to a standstill in Nigeria," the CP said.
