Wife of Bauchi State governor, Hajiya Hauwa Isa Yuguda has decried the neglect suffered by the elderly in the state, after contributing to the development of the state. and therefore has the plan to build homes for them in Bauchi.
Hajia Yuguda, who is the founder and initiator of Challenge Your Disability Initiative (CYDI), an NGO, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen shortly after marking her 46th birthday.
She explained that her NGO has decided to build houses for the elderly people because "leaving them homeless and to roam about in the street does not speak well of our system".
According to her, "seeing these elderly men and women on the street begging and sleeping on the barely floor does not speak well of those people who have used their energies and youth to contribute to nation building only to be left unattended to".
She noted that there was no honour to leave the elderly persons under rain, sun and unfavorable condition, stating that her NGO would construct a benefiting for the elderly people.
While speaking further, Hajia Yuguda said with support from philantropic individuals and organisations, plans were underway to construct a VVF centre in the state, noting that the construction of the centre would be done in collaboration with the state government.
Explaining further, she said the centre required permanent medical doctors, which necessitated the assistance of the state government to assist.
With the construction of VVF centre in the state, which is presently lacking, she expressed confidence that women who for long were rejected and neglected by their parents after being infected with the disease would now have their hopes restored as the centre would provide medical services to those suffering from the disease.
"You know this is a capital project and now that I have those who are ready to collaborate with my NGO I will talk to my husband the Governor so that we will see in which the government can come in to assist us realise this dream which will bring back hope to many who are suffering in silence form this disease," she said.
