Imo — Yobe State House of Assembly has directed the state mass transit company, Yobe Line to return the vehicles it took from the local government councils.
In a resolution, the House noted that four months after the local government vehicles were added to the fleet of the transport company, the councils had yet to receive any money from the revenue generated by the buses.
It would be recalled that the 17 local government councils bought 18-seater new buses and were asked to release them to the state transport company.
Hon. Zanna Ali, representing Machina constituency, had argued that Yobe line transport company had breached the agreement reached with the local councils as "they have not been benefiting anything from the deal four months after the agreement was reached".
He explained that management of the transport company had admitted that it would be in the interest of the local government councils if the buses were handed back to the councils.
The lawmaker representing Mamudo constituency, Hon. Isa Dachiwa, said the state government should buy vehicles for the transport company to help boost its fleet rather than take over those of the local government councils.
Meanwhile, to reduce the rate of accidents in the metropolis, the state Ministry of Works has embarked on a one week rehabilitation of a dilapidated roundabout, alleged to be causing accidents daily in the state capital.
The ministry advised motorists, especially heavy duty trucks, plying the Maiduguri to Kano via Damaturu road to take the newly constructed Damaturu inner ring road to allow repairs on the damaged roundabout.
