Nigeria: Suswam Tasks Indigenes on Devt

3 January 2009

Benue — Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has expressed the need for indigenes of the state to refocus their minds towards the establishment of developmental projects in the state.

Inaugurating some projects at the FIDEI Polytechnic, Gboko, a private school owned by a priest, Suswam pointed out that the establishment of developmental projects was a collective responsibility.

FIDEI Polytechnic was established by Rev. Father Chris Utov, in 2000 and took-off with the School of Engineering and Business studies in 2001.

About seven projects, including a female hostel to accommodate almost 100 students donated by Senator George Akume and four science laboratories were inaugurated.

Suswam said if people had established similar and other related developmental projects, the state would have recorded enormous economic and social development.

The governor, who expressed satisfaction at the level of development in the school, observed that the polytechnic had facilities more than its state-owned institution.

He, however, urged residents to take advantage of the school and train their children.

Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Moses Atagher, said FIDEI was the first privately-owned

Polytechnic to be duly accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in the Northern part of the country.

According to him, the school would provide the short, medium and long term basic and professional skills necessary to prepare the youth for meaningful life in the society. The School has a population of about 3,000 students.
