Lagos — Jigawa State Government has asked the treasurer and Director of Personnel Management in Hadejia Local Government, to proceed on compulsory retirement with immediate effect.
The government, which retired the officers for illegally withdrawing N15 million from the local government account, also issued a warning letter to the council chairman, Alhaji Jamilu Mujaddadi.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Nasiru Umar, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, after the State Executive Council (SEC) met with local government chairmen.
Umar said the action followed the submission of the report of a committee set up to investigate the allegation, adding that the withdrawal was made without due process.
He stated that the treasurer, Alhaji Ibrahim Lalo and the DPM, Alhaji Mohammed Dazomo, were forced to retire because they were career civil servants who were supposed to be disciplined.
Umar said that by virtue of their posts, they were supposed to be advisers to the council chairman.
The commissioner said that the DPM and the treasurer, who were supposed to retire on Grade level 16, had been demoted to retire on level 15.
He noted that in a similar development, a letter of commendation had been sent to the council's Director of Planning and Research, Alhaji Aminu Muhammed.
Muhammed, according to him, was a signatory to the account, but he refused to participate in the alleged scam.
