Nigeria: NFF Suspends Two Match Officials

4 January 2009

Organising and Disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has suspended two match officials, James Eguzoro (referee) and Adetunji Onotolu (match commissioner) for the rest of the league season.

The duo were observed to be incapacitated in the handling of Crown Fc versus Dolpin Fc of Port Harcourt's match during a week 5 National League game.

National League Interim Management Committee Secretary and a member of the Organising and Disciplinary Committee, Ayo Abdulrahman said the centre referee, James Eguzoro from Lagos state could not handle the match which some stakeholders believe was beyond him.

Abdulrahman said the committee has ratified the result of the match, which ended goalless.

The NFF's Organising and Disciplinary Committee also decided the case involving Jigawa Golden Stars and Kwara United.

The committee however awarded the match's 3 points and 3 goals to Kwara United.

Abdulrahman said that the Jigawa clubside's fans harassed Kwara United and also encroached on the field of play.

"The O and D after reviewing the case awarded the match to Kwara United and Jigawa will have to play their next 3 home matches behind closed doors. The committee has also warned the Jigawa FA on the need to provide adequate security during matches in the state.

The fracas occurred during the week seven National League match in Dutse, Jigawa State.

On the case involving Babanawa Fc of Kogi State and El-Kanemi during the week one match, El-Kanemi of Maiduguri protested that Babanawa could not provide a venue for the match to hold.

O and D has therefore ordered that the match be replayed in Kaduna. Babanawa was subsequently fined N200,000.00 to be paid to the league board and El-Kanemi.

Meanwhile, Babanawa has been warned to be sure of their venue before any match.

General Manager of the club Harry Yachi said the club will abide by the verdict of the committee, noting that the match would be replayed on January 13, 2009 in Kaduna.
