Maiduguri — As the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) enforces the use of crash helmet by commercial motorcyclist in Maiduguri, the price of the product has increased.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY investigation showed that a helmet which cost less than N1500 before the enforcement now cost about N5000, and despite the high price the commodity is scarce, because motorcyclist are rushing to buy it to avoid facing the wrath of the law.

A motorcyclist Adamu Hassan while narrating his ordeal in the hands of operation Flush II for not wearing a helmet said "I was subjected to all kinds of punishment because I could not afford to by the helmet because the sellers have increased the price".

Hassan appealed to the Federal Road Safety Commission to give them time so that every motorcycle ride could afford to buy.

He also appealed to members of operation Flush II to stop violating the rights of the general public and to be humane in their dealings with people. He added that even during military regimes such human rights abuses were not witnessed
