Uyo — Chief Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, has prayed God to make the state a point of contact from which springs the development of Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
He offered the prayers in his speech at Ibom hall, Uyo, during a one-day solemn assembly held yesterday under the theme; "Renewal of Covenants; handing the state over to God".
The governor, who took the first Bible lesson from the book of Deuteronomy 28:1-14, emphasised that God loves and cares for the people of Akwa Ibom State, since it was handed over to God in January 2008, when the 1st solemn assembly for that year was held, otherwise the crisis and problems which would have arisen in the state would have escalated to regrettable heights.
Chief Akpabio commended the people of the state for being the most peaceful in the whole of South- South geopolitical zone, adding that the irregular cases of kidnapping, hostage taking and some arrest made by the security agencies are a result of influx from the neighbouring states.
In his sermon, Apostle Dr Cletus Bassey reminded the citizen of the state on the theme of the preaching, highlighting that in the theme "Renewal of Covenant", the word "Renewal" shows that the covenant had ready been established, hence they should be mindful of the sacred relationship, lest they infuriate God through sacrilegious conducts.
Apostle Bassey encouraged the people to uphold the sanctity of God and behave accordingly to enjoy the blessing of God in the state.
Most Rev. Dr. Bishop Camillus Etukudoh, the state chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, in his goodwill message, appreciated the state government and pointed out that the current infrastructural transformation of the state is owed to the determination of the current leaders, calling on the citizens to think and act in line with the government people-oriented policies and programmes to elevate their lots.
Several prayers were rendered in diverse areas by religious leaders such as Rev. Fr. John Ebebe on confession and repentance; Apostle Goddey Udoidung on governor, government and people of Akwa Ibom State among others.
